Andhadhun Movie Review

Director Sriram Raghavan's Andhadhun is an official adaptation of a French short film named The Piano Tuner (2010) . Andhadhun is based on a murder mystery which leaves us with more questions than answers.

Set in Pune, we are introduced to the character Akash ( Ayushmann Khurrana ), who is a piano player who pretends to be blind .The character is based on a stereotype that any form of disability enhances the creativeness of a person. One day he accidentally meets Sophie ( Radhika Apte ), who offers him an evening job of playing piano in her father’s local restaurant Franco's. Akash impresses the guests there with his performance and also Sophie. A frequent customer at Franco’s is a yesteryear actor Pramod Sinha ( Anil Dhawan ) .

On one such frequent visit, he is overwhelmed by the piano skills of Akash. He fixes a private performance at his home – a surprise wedding anniversary present for his wife Simi ( Tabu ). Simi is an impulsive, lively and quick-witted character which is creatively hinted by Raghavan in an early scene where simi is cooking a crab and Pramod is making a video of it.

But next morning when Akash shows up in Pramod's house, nothing is what it seems to be. The story starts to unfold and the fun begins from this point where the only witness to a crime happens to be a visually impaired person whose disability is nothing but a bluff. His conscience urges him to report the crime which he has technically not ‘witnessed’, but there is more to this than what meets the eye.

First half of this movie is simply breathtaking ! There are surprises after every 10-15 minutes.Ayushmann Khurrana has often played simple and light-hearted characters in romantic dramas. In this movie, he plays a new type of character, in a new genre. He does not lose his wit troughout the movie and potrays the character of Akash briliantly . Tabu is marvelous as Simi ! Sriram Raghavan created a fitting role for this hugely talented actress . The way she plays the mind games and tries to manipulate the situations at various points is quite fun. Manav Vij who played the role of a Mahedra as the investigating officer plays a crucial role in the movie.

In the second half, as new characters are introduced and the plot proceeds, the twists continue to unfold. The story takes  you to the edge of the seat with the pulse racing . Raghavan makes you keep guessing even when you are laughing at a scene .

Everything in the Raghavan’s movie is there for a reason, even the opening scene of a rabbit being chased through cabbage fields by a hunter finds its sense at the end of the story . The humour is well-balanced and it flows naturally in this movie .

Everybody knows how a mystery should work, but Raghavan knows how all the mysteries work. The thriller leaves the audience to decode the possible meanings of how the film ended . This is the film we deserve.

A must watch Movie !
